New Brighton Music

It’s been a few weeks since out last post for which we can only apologise – we had a holiday, then jet lag, and only now we’re back on the blogging wagon. In that time both The Magic Gang and Fickle Friends have released their albums, and it seems to have been one of the busiest periods for other bands to share new music. We’d have no hope of catching up if we wrote up our new music post the way we normally do, with us much info as we have and details of any upcoming gigs, so for this post we’re going to keep things brief – just names of bands and tracks – and hopefully by next week we can get back to normal.

March Gig Previews

The beast from the east might be making it feel like deepest midwinter, but it’s actually the first day of March, so it’s time for some more another gig preview post. First up, this weekend AK/DK play their first Brighton gig since their album launch at the end of last year. It’s at Patterns on Saturday night, and support comes from Fruity Water.

Guru Hake

Then on Tuesday 6th March Guru and Hake launch their new release at the Green Door Store. The split 10″ contains Medicine Man by Guru and After Space Legacy by Hake and can be bought at the show. Continue reading

New Brighton Music

It’s a quiet week for new music, but it’s quality over quantity. First up is sometime member of Frost and The Larsens Johanna Bramli, whose debut solo EP came out last Friday. The five track EP is entitled Spirals and also features vocals from Debbie Clare:

The Go! Team at Concorde 2 gallery

Last night we went to see The Go! Team play a sold out show at the Concorde 2. It’s no surprise it was sold out – their new album Semicircle is their best in years and their live performances are second to none. Not even the freezing weather could put a dampener on things. Here’s our pics. As usual, click through to view large: Continue reading

February Gig Previews

27024292_1758823704148932_4865391248267470806_oSo, that’s January pretty much done with, which means it’s time for our February gig roundup. First up is an all dayer at the Green Door Store this Saturday from our friends over at Brighton Noise. Thanks to the Facebook event saying “in no particular order” we can’t quite work out who’s headlining out of Dirty White Fever, Breathe Panel, Garden Centre, Penelope Isles (playing songs from their individual solo projects), Leatherhead, Tilt, Merlin Tonto, Perch and the National Intelligence Agency, but we trust their judgement and it’ll be great whatever you get to see. New Brighton Music

Here’s this week’s new music roundup, starting off quiet, and getting noisier as we go along.

First up is La Lune, whose Bliss EP is every bit as lovely as the name suggests. Here’s EP opener He Breathes Colour When I Feel So Grey:

New Brighton Music

After a couple of weeks of live posts, here’s our second new music post of the year.

Our first track this week is the new release from Adal called Synthesize. Tight eighties synths provide the perfect accompaniment to vocals provided by Alexanderson from Cardiff’s XY&O.

The Go! Team / Semicircle

PRESS3I had a dream last night where the centrepiece of the upcoming Brighton Festival was a concert by The Go! Team, but instead of being in a venue it was a parade through the streets with the band accompanied by a brass band and a steel band and loads of vocalists and dancers. It was a joyous celebration. As the procession wound it’s way around the lanes the crowds grew bigger and bigger, culminating in a massive finale on the beach. Sadly it was just a dream, but close your eyes listening to the band’s new album Semicircle and it isn’t too hard to imagine (and if David Shrigley or anyone from the Festival reads this, it’s not too late to make it happen!) Support Your Local Girl Gang at Sticky Mikes Frog Bar

Last night we went along to the new Support Your Local Girl Gang night at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar. The night has been started up by local promoters Rixson Music after reading about how under represented women are on bills across gigs and festivals in the UK. We got there a little too late to see opener Holly Deanna, but we did see Anna Leigh Stainton, IVI and Stranger Girl, all of whom are names to keep your eyes out for – we’ve had a couple of IVI’s tracks on the blog over the last year, and will no doubt be featuring the others in due course. Here’s our pics, as always, click to view large: Continue reading

Green Door Store 7th Birthday

Happy Birthday Green Door Store! Yesterday our favourite venue in town invited us along to their birthday gig. As we mentioned in our January gig preview post there were a couple of Brighton bands on the bill – Guru and Desire – so we pointed our lens at them and you can see the pics below.
