October Gig Previews

It’s the first of the month, so it’s time to see what we’ve spotted to get you out the house in October.

First up, Magic Gang play a rare hometown show at the Green Door Store this Fridayat the Green Door Store this Friday at the Green Door Store this Friday. I hope you’ve got a ticket already though – it sold out yesterday.

Thyla are back with a new track (which we’ll have in our next New Music post) and a gig next week at the Green Door Store. They play on Monday 7th October.

Brighton’s music scene isn’t just about indie bands, so time to give a shout out to jazz outfit Barnacles, who launch their new album at the Rose Hill on Thursday 10th October. Rather than have a support, the band will be playing two sets over the course of the evening.

One venue we haven’t mentioned on the blog yet (or made it up to, at least while they’ve been open) is the new Loud Shirt Brewery up in Kemptown. As well as brewing beer there they’re also putting on gig – an encouraging thing to see when you hear so many stories of venues closing. On Friday 11th October you can catch Oh Mama and Hill playing – we’ll be keeping our eyes out for any other gigs they might be putting on too.

Moving now from something new to something that’s very much part of the furniture of the Brighton Music Scene (and we mean that in the nicest possible way). Jacko Hooper‘s Folklore are holding a special gig for their fifth birthday at the White Rabbit
on October 15th. As well as Jacko, the bill also features Paper Hawk and Family Fiction.

There’s a new studio in town. Pirate Studios already have a few other branches dotted around the country, but they’ve just opened up in Brighton (well, Hove actually). They’ve got a two part launch event on 18th October, taking place from 3-6 at their studios then moving on to Art Republic for the evening from 7pm onwards.

Finally, ARXX are off on tour throughout October. Things are rounded off with a hometown gig at the Hope & Ruin on Monday 28th October, where fellow locals LIME also form part of the bill

New Brighton Music

It’s been a few weeks since out last post for which we can only apologise – we had a holiday, then jet lag, and only now we’re back on the blogging wagon. In that time both The Magic Gang and Fickle Friends have released their albums, and it seems to have been one of the busiest periods for other bands to share new music. We’d have no hope of catching up if we wrote up our new music post the way we normally do, with us much info as we have and details of any upcoming gigs, so for this post we’re going to keep things brief – just names of bands and tracks – and hopefully by next week we can get back to normal.

Brighton Music Blog Great Escape / Alt Escape 2017 preview

TGE17
It’s almost that time again – the highlight in the Brighton musical calendar, when anywhere you can fit in a PA becomes venue for a few days. Yes, this coming weekend is The Great Escape Festival. We haven’t finalised our plans, but we’re probably going to end up seeing more Alt Escape stuff than proper Great Escape stuff, because that’s where the bulk of the local bands are playing. If you haven’t got yourself a ticket yet then you can get into all the Alt Escape stuff without one anyway.
