Brighton Rocks #28 : Penelope Isles

We first approached Penelope Isles about doing a Brighton Rocks with us back in June but as we’ve been told my multiple people, they’re the hardest working band in town, so the post is only finally going up now. Their album Until The Tide Creeps In came out on Bella Union back in July and the band have been on tour pretty much all this year, most recently supporting the Flaming Lips and playing at British Sea Power’s Krankenhaus festival. Next week they kick off a headline worldwide tour, starting with Europe, then North America, then Europe again and back to the UK culminating in a headline gig at the Haunt on 11th December

September gig previews

It’s 2nd September, so it’s time for another of our monthly gig preview posts. We skipped August because it seems most of the promoters and venues were also taking a well earned holiday, but normal service is resumed now.

First up is our latest Brighton Rocks subject BUNKR, who launches his new album The Initiation Well at the Rose Hill this Friday.

There’s another album launch the following Friday. On the 13th, Strange Cages launch “Pop Therapy” with a gig at the Rialto. Hopefully this won’t affect their Deadbeat Disco nights that they run every other Thursday at the Richmond, which are also highly recommended.

68555875_666494733831636_4926895450692255744_oTwo Brighton Music Blog favourites are playing on Wednesday 18th. You can catch Yumi & The Weather and Winter Gardens supporting Burning House at the Prince Albert.

A couple more release shows to mention – Pavilion launch at the Green Door Store on Fri 20th September, and King Bee  have a release show for their new EP at Pipeline on Friday 27th September.
