New Brighton Music

Time for another new music post. This time around we’ve got new ones from Orchards (who also announced details of their new album this week, which you can pre-order from their website), and Wax Machine (which can be pre-ordered through their bandcamp page amongst other places) who also appear on the new Hill album which is included too. Oh, and for Penelope Isles fans we’ve also got the new Ciel track, produced by Jack Wolter. Continue reading

New Brighton Music

Welcome to our first new music post of 2020. We’re on catchup somewhat, having not made any new music posts in December or so far in January, so we hope you’re sitting comfortably. We’re kicking off with two albums, the first from some Brighton legends who’ve kept us waiting for six and a half since their last record, and the other from the ambient solo project of one of our city’s most prolific drummers: Continue reading

Clowwns at the Hope & Ruin gallery

Last night Clowwns played at the Hope & Ruin (supported by Mum Dad and the Kids, but we got there a bit late for them because Clowwns played a two sets). The band, who disppeared off the scene for a few years are back for 2020, and played a mix of old and new songs, all as tight and angular as they ever were. Lighting was provided by the seemingly omnipresent Innerstrings (who’s also going to be hard at work next weekend running Lewes Psych Fest, alongside last night’s promoter Melting Vinyl). Brighton Music Blog Best of 2019

It’s Christmas Eve Eve, and we’ve left it a bit late to come up with our end of the year round up. Without much further ado, here it is – We say it every year, but this isn’t an ordered list, because you just can’t compare a band who’ve been releasing records for over twenty years with another who’ve just put out their first release. So hopefully there’s something in here for everyone, whether you’ve been listening to Nick Cave since he played with The Birthday Party, or you discovered CLT DRP at a sweaty night at the Green Door Store: Continue reading

Penelope Isles (supported by Ciel and Itchy Kid) at Chalk – gallery

It’s been a while since we’ve put up a gallery of live image, but we brought our camera out to Penelope Isles‘ homecoming gig at Chalk earlier this week. It was their hundredth this year, and one of a handful with projections from Innerstrings. Support was the debut performance from Itchy Kid (who would also join Penelope Isles for a song in their set) and Ciel (who were joined by Jack Wolter for one of their songs). New Brighton Music

Almost our last New Music round up of the year – of the decade, thinking about things. Not much gets released in December, so there’ll probably be maybe one more, then we’ll have some kind of end of year post, which I haven’t really thought about yet. Anyway, here’s what to listen to this week: Continue reading

New Brighton Music

Here’s this week’s new music, coming on a Saturday rather than midweek, so we’ve caught all the tracks that just dropped yesterday too, including tunes from the new albums by previous Brighton Rocks subjects Dog in the Snow and Animal House (and a new video from BUNKR too). Anyway, onto the music: Continue reading

New Brighton Music

Here’s this week’s new music post, which features the return of Orchards who today announced their biggest headline tour to date. Gone are the days of seeing them in small venues like the Hope & Ruin or the Prince Albert – their next gig in Brighton will be in April at Chalk. Continue reading

November / December gig previews

It’s the fourth of November and we haven’t got around to this month’s gig preview post yet. That means we’ve missed out on telling you about Tru Thoughts 20th Birthday Party which was at Patterns on Saturday, and British Sea Power’s all dayer at the Concorde yesterday. There’s still a lot of other gigs to tell you about though, including a couple in December – The music world shuts down towards the end of November and only posts end of year lists, so I’m including them now so they don’t get missed. Continue reading
