New Brighton Music

Here’s this week’s new music roundup. I’m going to start this week’s post with a band described by a friend as “The best live performance I have seen in some time”. He was talking about Penelope Isles, who have a new single out called Shining Gold. The beautiful chiming lo fi folk number coincides with the band’s current tour, which started at the Prince Albert on 18th September (which is where the quote above came from). Since then they’ve been down to the South West and hit London tomorrow before heading north, but this bit of the tour comes back to Brighton next Saturday where they play a joint headline gig with Porridge Radio at Latest on Saturday 30th September.

New Brighton Music

I had a thought this week that I should make all my new music posts on the same day of the week, and then they’d be New Music Mondays or something like that, but then I realised I could never be so organised as to organise my week like that, so we’re stuck with New Brighton Music as the post name, and they’ll come out as I manage to get the time in front of my computer. The band in question is called Fröst, and they’re made up of Johanna Bramli, who currently sings with The Larsens, but was also a member of Stereolab offshoot Imitation Electric Piano and The Woo!Worths (who we wrote about in the early days of the blog) and Fujiya & Miyagi’s Steve Lewis. The track’s called Crackling On The Wire, and if you like the sound of their motoric psychedelia their first gig is at the Rose Hill on 2nd December: Continue reading

New Brighton Music

Here’s our first update in a little while. The usual excuses don’t apply – we were on holiday instead. Whatever the excuse though there’s still over a week’s worth of new music to catch up on.

Our first track is a new free download from Alex Banks. It’s called All Over and it features fellow Brightonians Alphabets Heaven. Here’s the video for it, you can download the track via Alex’s website.
