We’re only a few days away from June, so it’s about time for another set of previews.
Our first tip is Crayola Lectern’s album launch at the Rosehill this Friday (1st June). Friday is also release day for Happy Endings, Crayola Lectern‘s second long player, and you can see the video for Rescue Mission in yesterday’s new music post.
We were sad to read about Red Deer People calling it a day. In a statement they said “And so it’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Red Deer People are calling it a day. A huge thank you to everyone who has listened to our music, bought our records, and came to see us live over the last few years. We’ve had a blast. We will be playing one final farewell show and we would love it if you could attend”. The last gig will be on June 14th at The Hope & Ruin with support from Squid and The Family Chain.
It’s only because we rite about things chronologically that the biggest gig of the month falls last in our write up. Yesterday’s new music post featured the first new music from Orbital since 2012’s Wonky LP and on Friday 29th June they play a massive gig at Brighton Racecourse. Orbital’s live sets are legendary (they put out an album compiled from their Glastonbury performances a few years back), and they’ll be joined by Faithless amongst others.
We’re playing catchup again this week after our holidays last week, and it seems that we missed a flurry of activity, so once again we’re going to keep things pretty brief, limiting our words to just what you need to know about the tracks.
The biggest news this week is that Blood Red Shoes have a new single. It’s called God Complex and is out now on Jazz Life: Continue reading →
For this month’s gig preview post we’re actually going to cover November and December. Generally there aren’t as many gigs in December, and we’re normally distracted with end of year stuff on the blog, so it’s seems appropriate to cover two months in one post now. Continue reading →
This week’s New Music post gives us here at Brighton Music Blog much happiness because this week we read about the return of The Go! Team. They’ve returned with a single called Semicircle Song, the first taste of an album of the same name. The single is out now, and the album follows in January, out on neon pink vinyl if you pick it up from Resident. There are also all sorts of bundles available from the Go! Team’s webstore too. Tickets are also onsale now for the launch gig which is at The Haunt on 11th February. Continue reading →
There is no shortage of great music to choose from in Brighton. Last Saturday we took in two great live events, at the Green Door Store and Brunswick Pub with an array of excellent local acts, in yet another marathon … Continue reading →
We’ve been writing about albums more than individual tracks and without realising suddenly there’s loads to catch up. So without further ado, here’s the new one from Fujiya & Miyagi. It’s the first track to be shared from EP2, the follow up to EP1 which came out earlier this year. The track’s called Outstripping (The Speed of Light) and is out on 28th October. Fujiya & Miyagi have also announced a mini tour taking in Paris, Istanbul, Barcelona and Bristol, ending up in Brighton at The Haunt on 11th November:
We haven’t posted up a gallery of a local gig since October last year, and the last time we featured a gig at the Green Door Store was back in 2014. It’s been a while. So here are some shots from last night’s gig. Prince Vaseline headlined supported by Red Deer People and grasshopper, and turnout was surprisingly good for a grey Sunday in January.
