For this month’s gig preview post we’re actually going to cover November and December. Generally there aren’t as many gigs in December, and we’re normally distracted with end of year stuff on the blog, so it’s seems appropriate to cover two months in one post now.
There’s lots of launch gigs that caught our eye this month. Red Deer People launch their single C’est Bon at the Hope & Ruin on 10th November, supported by Porridge Radio and Jungfrau. Then on the 16th November the Pelirocco is playing host to the launch of The Delta Bell‘s new album Hold Fast The Fire, supported by Stephanie Goodman. Not billed as an album launch gig, but coming shortly after the release of Ojala, Simon Raymond’s new band Lost Horizons play a sold out gig at the Rialto on 18th November. The Lost Horizons live band includes Helen “Dog in the Snow” Brown (who also provides support on the night) and Chris “Crayola Lectern” Anderson. The last launch to mention is for the new Night House single The Roots in the Wires, which features Ellie Ford. As with Lost Horizons, Ellie Ford will also be playing as part of Night House on the night and will also be the support. The gig is at the Unitarian Church on 24th November and will be raising money for the Hummingbird Project refugee charity.
There’s plenty of gigs that have caught our eye over the next weeks – Moulettes headline an all day even at One Church on 2nd December to celebrate Moulettes-linked label Sotones Records 10th Birthday. Rather than list everyone involved, you can read more and buy tickets here. Fujiya & Miyagi play Patterns on 7th December. They’re on the road at the moment to promote the vinyl release of their breakthrough album Transparent Things, so not exactly a launch gig. The Fiction Aisle are playing their second annual Christmas gig at The Hope & Ruin on 13th December. As if the Fictional Aisle wasn’t enough of a draw Rose Elinor Dougall is also on the bill, who should be headlining but hasn’t topped a non-festival bill in Brighton since 2010. We were sad to hear that King Porter Stomp will be heading out on their last ever tour at the end of November. After a week or two out on the road, their last ever gig will be at The Haunt on 19th December. Finally Spectrum have two more gigs coming up – Animal House headline Brighton Youth Centre on November 24th alongside Porridge Radio who get their second mention in this post, and then there’s a second mention for Ellie Ford, who headlines the Spectrum Winter Special at Brighton Museum on December 7th.
