Here’s this week’s New Music post. Often new releases slow down around festival season, but Brighton’s bands? No Way.
Orbital‘s comeback has been properly cemented – their comeback in February was technically a remix, so its good to have some proper new material from the Hartnoll brothers with their new single Copenhagen:
A few days later than anticipated (aren’t we always apologising for late posts?) here’s a few of the gigs happening around town in August.
First up is a series of gigs at the Joker called “Wanna Hang?”. They’re taking place every Tuesday in August (so there’s been one already and the next is tomorrow night). The future gigs see headlines from Breathe Panel, The New Tusk and Beachtape, but there’s four bands on each night. Tickets are only a mere three pounds which strikes us as a bargain.
Next Sunday is what’s probably Brighton Music Blog faves grasshopper‘s last gig for a while. They’re on the bill with Murder Boys and Strange Cages at The Prince Albert.
The following night (Monday 14th August), Brighton Noise are also putting on a night at the Prince Albert. It’s headlined by 80’s Matchbox B-line disaster spin-off Piano Wire, and also has T House from Charlottefield / Sweet Williams on the line up, but we’re most interested in this gig because it’s the debut performance from Black Bunny, Thomas White’s new band. As mentioned in our last new music post, we’ve got some catching up to do. Apologies to any of the bands we’re writing about who got in touch with us weeks ago. Normal service should resume shortly.
First up is Psylhouette, a band from Brighton and Berlin who make beautiful motorik pop. Their new single is called Asking and features vocals by Juli Holz:
It’s been far too long since we made a new music post – transcribing the recent interview took forever, and rare nights out eat into the limited time we have to post. So here we are with a bit of catching up to do. Inevitably we won’t be able to write about everything we’ve sent, so we’ll do our best, and then try and catch up when we can.
We’ll kick things off properly with something brand new – this weekend ex Shrag / Blue Minkies member Steph Goodman released her debut solo album If You Know You Know. I could describe it as experimental DIY pop, but your best bet is to head over to Bandcamp and give it a listen:
Normally at the top of each Brighton Rocks we put up a picture that we’ve shot ourselves of our interviewees, but despite a fair few emails back and forth between us and the Pete Fij & Terry Bickers camp we haven’t managed to sort things out yet, and their beautifully sublime album We Are Millionaires comes out tomorrow so we thought we’d get the words up and hopefully the picture can follow at some point.
