Here’s this week’s new music post, which starts a bit differently from normal because the first track I wanted to share isn’t online as far as I can see – It’s the Record Store Day release from Blood Red Shoes’ Jazz Life record label, and the release is called AA Sessions Volume One. It features contributions from AK/DK, Blood Red Shoes, Tigercub, Sick Joy and Projector. Hopefully by the time you read this they might still have a copy at Resident. If not, give Cult Hero, Vinyl Revolution or Rarekind a try. There’s only 500 for the whole country though, so good luck. Continue reading

New Brighton Music
Here’s this week’s new music roundup, which I started putting together earlier this week, got halfway through, then realised that some of the tracks I wanted to include hadn’t been shared publicly, so here I am finishing it off on a Friday night: Continue reading
April gig previews
OK, so we’re several days into April before posting our April gig previews, but I’m sure you’ve all been eating chocolate eggs (and reading the comeback Fruity Water Brighton Rocks post) to be thinking about going to gigs. But the Easter holidays are over, so let’s crack on (egg pun intended) Continue reading
February Gig Previews
So, that’s January pretty much done with, which means it’s time for our February gig roundup. First up is an all dayer at the Green Door Store this Saturday from our friends over at Brighton Noise. Thanks to the Facebook event saying “in no particular order” we can’t quite work out who’s headlining out of Dirty White Fever, Breathe Panel, Garden Centre, Penelope Isles (playing songs from their individual solo projects), Leatherhead, Tilt, Merlin Tonto, Perch and the National Intelligence Agency, but we trust their judgement and it’ll be great whatever you get to see. Another Saturday Night. Another Brighton Noise presents…
Brighton Noise put on a fine Saturday night gig of local acts, featuring Porridge Radio, Penelope Isles, Beach Tape and Capt Lovelace. We were there to record things, photographically-speaking. Continue reading
New Brighton Music
Here’s this week’s new music roundup. I’m going to start this week’s post with a band described by a friend as “The best live performance I have seen in some time”. He was talking about Penelope Isles, who have a new single out called Shining Gold. The beautiful chiming lo fi folk number coincides with the band’s current tour, which started at the Prince Albert on 18th September (which is where the quote above came from). Since then they’ve been down to the South West and hit London tomorrow before heading north, but this bit of the tour comes back to Brighton next Saturday where they play a joint headline gig with Porridge Radio at Latest on Saturday 30th September.

September Gig Preview
One of these days we’ll get around to posting our gig preview posts at the end of the previous month rather than a few days into the new month. Not this month though. If I was on the ball, I’d have posted about ZOFFF’s gig at the Prince Albert last Sunday, where they were joined onstage by Terry Bickers and Jo Spratley and lit by Innerstrings. As a consolation, ZOFFF are playing again on 30th September at the Prince Albert. Continue reading
New Brighton Music
Here we are with our first New Music post of 2016. A fair few of the tracks actually came out last year, but we were a bit distracted in December with our Top ten posts. Talking of our Top ten, you might ask why we’re featuring our number one Fujiya & Miyagi again. Well, EP2 is about to get a US release, and the band put out a video for Extended Dance Mix directed by Bob Brown from Shrag:
