BBTonight two local acts are supporting Basia Bulat at The Hope. You can catch Bella Spinks and Heliopause on Queens Road from 8pm. Meanwhile Audiobeach Studios celebrate their fourth birthday with a showcase at Sticky Mike’s with sets from BirdEatsBaby, Nylon Sky, Echo & the Beats and Departure from Normal.

More New Music – British Sea Power, Derriere, Faux Flux and Eyes & No Eyes

It’s barely been a few days since we last posted about the latest batch of new music but here we are again with even more!

First is the new video from British Sea Power for their upcoming single Loving Animals. It’s hot off the press only going up YouTube earlier today:

Next up is Derriere‘s new single Last Laugh. We gave this a share on our new Facebook page last week, but if you haven’t found us on Facebook yet you might not have seen this. Last Laugh will be out in July:

We’ve had some indie, some soul, and now we’ve got some leftfield electronic pop. Come Alive is the title track from Faux Flux‘s new EP which is out on 1st July:

Finishing us off with something different again is the latest release from the Wilkommen stable. Eyes & No Eyes release their new double A side If No One Else Saw It / Flying Machine today, available on 7″ vinyl, cd with handmade linocut cover or name-your-price download:

LNLThere are loads of great gigs on Friday night. Kovak top the bill at the Hope alongside Storms and Cat Fire Radio, and The Self Help Group are on at the Brunswick with Eliza Jaye, The Beautiful Word and Bella McKendree. Friday Night also sees some of Brighton’s regular nights with strong line ups – Late Night Lingerie at Sticky Mikes is headlined by Skirts with The Repeat Prescriptions also on the line up, and it’s also Les Enfants Terribles at the Blind Tiger, with Written in Waters, Spit Shake Sisters, Calico and Glossy Coat.

WytchesSaturday is Kemptown Carnival. There are loads of bands on the bill, including Derriere, The Kalakuta Millionaires and Carnival Collective. The afterparty is at the Blind Tiger from 8pm and is headlined by Transformer. Up at the Hope, The Wytches are having their single launch party, and it’s free!

Weekend Gig Picks

Our regular Weekend Gigs feature is back after a bit of a Christmas break. If you’re willing to brave the cold (and the snow if weather reports are to be believed), here’s what we’d recommend

Tonight’s recommendation is a new night called Night Sweats. “But Brighton Music Blog” I hear you cry, “it’s gone seven o clock, I should have made plans already”. Aha, but Night Sweats doesn’t start until 9pm. It’s a new night for people who want to stay out a bit later, and who don’t have to worry about work in the morning. It’s headlined by Elle Kaye who are onstage at 12:15. Support comes from Rosales, Saint Savanna and Classic Plastic. More info over on Facebook.

Friday night we’re recommending a gig just outside of Brighton, but it’s close enough that we’ll let them off. Derriere haven’t played a local gig for a while, so to make up for it they’re playing two sets at their gig. They’ll be raising the roof at the Ropetackle centre in Shoreham from 8pm. More info here.

Our Top Tip for Saturday is Fragile Creatures at Green Door Store, but we’ve also spotted the latest Brighton Rocks night headlined by Forestears at Sticky Mikes, and Nick Williams at the Prince Albert

Then Sunday our advice is a gig that you can’t buy a ticket for. Esben & The Witch are launching their fantastic new album “Wash The Sins Not Only The Face” (review coming soon!) at the Green Door Stoor, and the only way to get in is to pre-order the album, which is out next monday, from Resident.
