The follow up to last year’s Wash The Sins Not Only The Face has been produced by legendary producer Steve Albini at his Electric Audio studio in Chicago, and will be released on September 1st on a new label set up by the band called Nostromo records. The first taster of the album is a track called Blood Teachings, which you can hear below:

Coming up : Nordic Giants supporting God is an Astronaut / new music from Esben & The Witch

Nordic Giants at Komedia 2

This week Nordic Giants head out on tour with Irish post rock band God is an Astronaut, where they play their first Brighton gig since the launch of their awesome Build Seas / Dismantle Suns double EP last October. The tour takes in Glasgow, Leeds, Nottingham and Birmingham before arriving in Brighton next Sunday 16th March, where they play The Haunt.

A few weeks later the band are heading up to London to play one of their most important gigs yet headlining Cargo on 1st May.

Next month, Esben & The Witch release a split 12″ with Thought Forms on Invada records. It was premiered a couple of weeks ago on Stereogum, but now the stream is available for us to share too. The release of No Dog on 7th April comes in advance of the band heading into the studio in the summer with the legendary Steve Albini for an album pencilled in for autumn this year. More news on that as we hear of it, but in the meantime, here’s the audio of No Dog:

Esben & The Witch tour and video

tour

Today Esben & The Witch announced a tour with Thought Forms and Teeth this autumn, taking in London, Leeds, Liverpool, Leicester and three other places not beginning with L, including their hometown – they play Sticky Mike’s on 13th October.

Alongside the tour announcement the band have also put out a video to Iceland Spar, which is the first track on Wash The Sins Not Only The Face. It was all filmed on Super 8 while they were on tour earlier this year. The band say “We see the song itself as the rallying cry at the start of an expedition so setting it to the images of our trip seemed wholly appropriate”

Weekend Gig Picks

Our regular Weekend Gigs feature is back after a bit of a Christmas break. If you’re willing to brave the cold (and the snow if weather reports are to be believed), here’s what we’d recommend

Tonight’s recommendation is a new night called Night Sweats. “But Brighton Music Blog” I hear you cry, “it’s gone seven o clock, I should have made plans already”. Aha, but Night Sweats doesn’t start until 9pm. It’s a new night for people who want to stay out a bit later, and who don’t have to worry about work in the morning. It’s headlined by Elle Kaye who are onstage at 12:15. Support comes from Rosales, Saint Savanna and Classic Plastic. More info over on Facebook.

Friday night we’re recommending a gig just outside of Brighton, but it’s close enough that we’ll let them off. Derriere haven’t played a local gig for a while, so to make up for it they’re playing two sets at their gig. They’ll be raising the roof at the Ropetackle centre in Shoreham from 8pm. More info here.

Our Top Tip for Saturday is Fragile Creatures at Green Door Store, but we’ve also spotted the latest Brighton Rocks night headlined by Forestears at Sticky Mikes, and Nick Williams at the Prince Albert

Then Sunday our advice is a gig that you can’t buy a ticket for. Esben & The Witch are launching their fantastic new album “Wash The Sins Not Only The Face” (review coming soon!) at the Green Door Stoor, and the only way to get in is to pre-order the album, which is out next monday, from Resident.

A taster of the new Esben & The Witch album

Esben & The Witch release their new album Wash the Sins Not Only the Face in January. “That’s ages away!” I hear you say! Well, it’s not that far away, but if you really can’t wait that long, you can head over to the Matador Records Blog, where there’s a whole host more information, and a free download of the track Deathwaltz.
