Although we’re managing to be fairly regular with our posts these days we haven’t actually made a new music post since the start of November, so we’ve got a bit of catching up to do. The first track we’re going to write about is very new though – the band’s first release (although both members are very established musicians) and only went online at the weekend. The band in question is called Fröst, and they’re made up of Johanna Bramli, who currently sings with The Larsens, but was also a member of Stereolab offshoot Imitation Electric Piano and The Woo!Worths (who we wrote about in the early days of the blog) and Fujiya & Miyagi’s Steve Lewis. Gallery : Fujiya & Miyagi and Lost Idol at The Haunt

Last Friday night we headed down to the Haunt to catch Fujiya & Miyagi round off a mini tour to promote their new release EP2. The set covered most of the two new EPs and skipped through a greatest hits of their back catalogue with Ankle Injuries, Uh, Collarbone and Flaws all in the set list. Best of all was the reintroduction of Electro Karaoke, which they always used to close their set with but had been absent for a few years. Support came from Lost Idol who played a set drawn mainly from his recent Chrome Machine Tales album.

New Brighton Albums

We have two new albums to write about this week – The first is from Broker, whose album Quixota came out on October 22nd on Smalltown America records, although we received the first mail about the record back in August. Sorry guys. Since then the band have been on tour around Europe, but you haven’t missed the local launch yet – The album launch is happening this Saturday at the Prince Albert.

Next other is the new long player from Luo, who also got in touch with us far too long ago. Again, apologies. Their new release is called Sleep Spindles, and is out on local label Small Pond. There’s no big local launch for the record, but Luo are supporting Three Trapped Tigers on Sunday at Patterns, with the equally brilliant Physics House Band also on the bill.

Here’s this week’s New Music roundup. We’re kicking off with Our Girl whose EP Normally comes out on local label Cannibal Hymns on 18th November. The video for No Big Deal taken from the EP was featured on Vevo this week. Good work Our Girl!

We posted the audio for the new Gang single Dead in our last New Music roundup, but with a track name like that they would have been missing a trick if they didn’t do something to celebrate Halloween earlier this week. Right on cue they sent us the video:

Kudu Blue have a new track out called NGFM. They finally play their first headline shows later this month, in London on 16th November and at the Hope & Ruin on 17th.

It’s been a while since we wrote about The Space Agency, but they’ve just let us know about a double A side single The Devil’s Saddle / Tiger Paw, out now on their own label Tremolo Records and available to buy through their bandcamp page.

The latest band to sign up to the Communion singles club are MarthaGunn, who’ve featured on these pages before. The lead track from their single is Honest, which you can hear below. Look out too for the acoustic video of the track filmed in a church in Wales.

In advance of the release of their album Abstract Figures in the Dark, which comes out a week tomorrow, Tigercub have shared a video for Memory Boy, made up of footage shot at their gig in October at Patterns:

Rounding up this week is This Party, whose new single Money comes out on Moscow Let’s Go records on 14th November

Sweet Williams album news / gig preview

sweet-williams Tomorrow night sees Sweet Williams play an intimate set at The Quadrant in support of his new release Please Let Me Sleep On Your Tonight. Long term friend of Brighton Music Blog Greg Neate caught up with Sweet Williams’ Tom House to talk about the record and you can read the interview over at Louder Than War.

Please Let Me Sleep On Your Tonight is out now on Faux Discx, who seem to be unable to put a foot wrong with the records that they’re releasing this year, and can be purchased on vinyl at Resident, or on download from the band’s bandcamp site.

Album news – Wytches, Tigercub, Resonators and Bloom

It’s about time we had a catch up on the new albums by local bands which are either just out, or just about to come out. The first of these is The Wytches whose new LP All Your Happy Life came out on Heavenly right at the end of September. As a taster, here’s Crest of Death:

Tigercub are out on tour around Europe right now in support of their upcoming album. It’s called Abstract Figures in the Dark, and it comes out on 11th November on Alcopop. If you pre-order it from Resident you’ll get two free tickets to the band’s instore performance on 13th November. Here’s track three from the album, Omen:

The new album from Resonators also came out last Friday (although they played a Brighton launch at the Dome Studio Theatre a couple of weeks back). Their new release is called Imaginary People and is out on Wah Wah 45s. Here’s album opener All The Paths:

Bloom launched their debut album What Is Life with a gig at Latest Music Bar a couple of weekends ago. Formerly the Beautiful Word, the band have grown up, and are displaying a new-found maturity and a love of synths. The band have a new video out on Friday, and are also selling a very limited run if cassettes of the demos for their album (which you can find more info about on their Facebook page). Black Honey at Patterns gallery

We don’t get out nearly as much as we used to, and haven’t been able to support the live scene as much as we ought. Last night though, we pitched ourselves up in the front row at Patterns to catch Black Honey, on the road just in time for their new single Hello Today. They played to a sold out venue for over an hour – not bad for a band who haven’t even had an album out yet, and while their live set gets bigger and better each time we see them they haven’t forgotten their roots, with the old pink flamingo nestled in the back of the set. New Brighton Music

Another week, another new music round up. We’re kicking off this week with the new single from Black Honey which came out last Friday called Hello Today. We’ll be down the front for Black Honey’s sold out show next Thursday at Patterns. See you there.

Next up is Fear of Men who are off on tour again, covering Europe in September and October (stopping off at Patterns on 15th October), then off to America in November. To celebrate they’ve shared a video for another track from their Fall Forever album. This is Sane:

Bad Family have just shared their second single called I’m a Drunk. It seems that everyone I’m writing about is playing live soon – you can catch them at The Hope & Ruin next Monday.

The Hundredth Anniversary‘s first new music in a long time showed up a week or two ago. After I Was Thrown In The River is more melodic and less shoegaze than their early stuff, and is the first taster of their upcoming album Sea State Pictures.

The new Animal House EP Sorry comes out on 18th November. They’ve put out a video for the track Heavy which you can see below. We’d write about when they’re playing live, but they’re probably on stage at the Prince Albert as I’m typing this:

A Drop of Blood in a Bowl of Milk is the new EP from Whiskey for the Wounded which came out on 22nd September. If you missed the launch last week, you can catch them at the next Indie Noir night at the Verdict on 13th October.

Last but not least we had news in a few weeks ago of End Call, an album released on cassette by Bloody Death. Turn The Tables is the track that they’re choosing to showcase the album with on bandcamp, but the rest of the tape isn’t all trashy guitar – there’s some mellower stuff on there too.

We’ve been writing about albums more than individual tracks and without realising suddenly there’s loads to catch up. So without further ado, here’s the new one from Fujiya & Miyagi. It’s the first track to be shared from EP2, the follow up to EP1 which came out earlier this year. The track’s called Outstripping (The Speed of Light) and is out on 28th October. Fujiya & Miyagi have also announced a mini tour taking in Paris, Istanbul, Barcelona and Bristol, ending up in Brighton at The Haunt on 11th November:

Album news – Cold Pumas / Hanging Valley

We dropped the ball a few weeks ago and missed posting about the release of The Hanging Valley, the new album by Cold Pumas, which came out in the middle of August on local label Faux Discx (run by Cold Puma Dan Reeves). Cold Pumas are giants of the local scene and we’re kicking ourselves for missing the launch at the Hope & Ruin a couple of weeks back. It’s not too late for the London launch though, which takes place tomorrow night at Moth Club.
