It’s been a fortnight since our last New Music roundup, so we’re playing catchup from the off. We’ll kick off with the new EP from Yonaka, Heavy, which came out last Friday. As mentioned in our gig preview post they’re playing in a few weeks time at Patterns, and then again at the Green Door Store in January. Here’s EP lead track Bubblegum:

October Gig Previews
Here’s our now-officially-regular-again October gig preview post. And it’s only the 3rd October! It’s getting nearer to the start of the month every time we do one.
There’s a lot to see this weekend, and hopefully something for everyone. On Friday night (6th) you could opt for The Dials, who launch their album at the Hope & Ruin, accompanied by a lightshow by Innerstrings and also a DJ set by Steve Mason. Alternatively you could head to the Rosehill where Shona Foster plays with her new band, supported by Ellie Ford. Or you could head to the Prince Albert, where Sparrow (or should that be Sprrw these days?) launch their new album

Another Saturday Night. Another Brighton Noise presents…
Brighton Noise put on a fine Saturday night gig of local acts, featuring Porridge Radio, Penelope Isles, Beach Tape and Capt Lovelace. We were there to record things, photographically-speaking. Continue reading
New Brighton Music
Here’s this week’s new music roundup. I’m going to start this week’s post with a band described by a friend as “The best live performance I have seen in some time”. He was talking about Penelope Isles, who have a new single out called Shining Gold. The beautiful chiming lo fi folk number coincides with the band’s current tour, which started at the Prince Albert on 18th September (which is where the quote above came from). Since then they’ve been down to the South West and hit London tomorrow before heading north, but this bit of the tour comes back to Brighton next Saturday where they play a joint headline gig with Porridge Radio at Latest on Saturday 30th September.

New Brighton Albums
We haven’t done a new album post in a few months, so it’s about time we stopped and looked at what local albums have come out recently, and what’s coming up.
Last night, Time for T launched their debut album Hoping, Something, Anything at the Rialto. There’s a new single, Ronda, which you can see below:

Pete Fij & Terry Bickers at the Rialto gallery
A week ago today, Pete Fij and Terry Bickers played at the Rialto on the Brighton date of their tour to support their new album We Are Millionaires, and we were privileged to be invited along. The album is a beautiful thing, not nearly as downbeat as Pete and Terry described it on the night. Sure, it’s not a cheery pop album, but it’s more reflective than depressing, and the thing that we loved was the quality of the songwriting an musicianship on show. Support on the night came from Les Black. (click on pics to view large) Continue reading
September Gig Preview
One of these days we’ll get around to posting our gig preview posts at the end of the previous month rather than a few days into the new month. Not this month though. If I was on the ball, I’d have posted about ZOFFF’s gig at the Prince Albert last Sunday, where they were joined onstage by Terry Bickers and Jo Spratley and lit by Innerstrings. As a consolation, ZOFFF are playing again on 30th September at the Prince Albert. Continue reading
New Brighton Music
Here’s this week’s new music post. Without any further ado or any preamble, we’ll kick off proceedings with the very exciting news of the return of AK/DK and their new single Morphology. It’s taken from their upcoming album Patterns/Harmonics which comes out on 20th October, with a launch gig at the Green Door Store on 24th October.

New Brighton Music
It’s only been 10 days since our last New Music post, but somehow it feels like we’ve got a month’s worth of new music to share. Things are normally quiet in August, but the last couple of weeks have gone crazy. First up is the new single from Other States entitled Come Back To Me. Other States headline Brighton Electric on 19th September.
