New Brighton Albums

After a bit of an absence because a teething baby is higher up my priorities than writing blog posts, we’re back with some new music and not just new tracks, but whole albums.

Fear-of-Men-Fall-Forever Fall Forever by Fear of Men came out on Kanine Records on June 3rd, the same day as the band played a live instore at Resident to promote the record. The album is a follow up to 2014’s Loom and shows the band branching out sonically and lyrically. Jess Weiss went into the process of writing with a desire to develop her own voice, rather than hiding behind metaphors and oblique references, and the album features a much broader aural palette compared to it’s predecessor. We already posted up the video for Island, so here’s the video for one of the other tracks, Trauma:

Moulettes-Preternatural-300x300 We’ve been fans of Moulettes for a long long time at Brighton Music Blog, and their performance at One Church confirmed that they still deserve a place in our hearts. Moulettes also played a live instore at Resident to promote Preternatural, the week before Fear of Men and are now off on tour all around the world, currently in Canada. Moving further and further away from their folk roots, the new material could be described as prog, with it’s switching time signatures and 70s sounding guitars. Here’s the lead single from the album, Behemoth:

Phoria-Volition Last of all we have news of the debut album from Phoria, which has been a long time coming – their first EP appeared in 2013. Volition was released on 3rd June on X Novo, and the album launches (in Brighton and London) were meant to be taking place this week. Sadly, Phoria main man Trewin Howard is out of action, so the gigs have been postponed for now. We’ll bring you details of the rescheduled dates as we have them. In the meantime, here’s Loss, which has been suggested to us as one of the standout tracks:

Here’s this week’s dose of new music for you all, slightly bigger than normal because I didn’t get around to posting last week. Our first track is the new one from Sea Bed called Moving Ghosts, which gets a release on Four Thieves records on vinyl on 11th March (which you can pre-order here):

Miamigo have shared some more 80s-tastic synthpop. This is Pot Luck:

Thyla have followed up last year’s Us and Them with Car Crash, an ambitious, angular slice of guitar pop:

Great Pagans premiered their new single over on Steregum last week. The band are releasing Call of the Wild on Anti-Ghost Moon Ray on 11th March.

Tuska are the third band we’re writing about who are releasing their new single on 11th March. Their new track is called We Could Be Alone, and is a must-listen for fans of Tame Impala. If you like what you hear you can catch the band at Sticky Mike’s on 4th March:

Landslide is the debut single from Loa Loa, a raucous three minute garage cacophony committed to tape at Brighton Electric

Changing tack completely, this is White Peaks, with their new dreamy electronic pop song Easy:

Nicolas and the Saints are releasing their album Years in the Making at the end of the month (or at the start of the month if you pledged to their indiegogo campaign). The album was literally years in the making, with recording taking place over seven years. Here’s the album’s penultimate track Been Hurt Before:

Warsaw Radio are returning to their Irish roots for the launch of their new single Down by the Sea. Their mini tour starts this time next week and takes in Dundalk, Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway:

Electric Greyhound make woozy electronica, and have just posted up their latest track Flounder:

Finishing up this post we have three videos – Just posted today was GAPS video for their track A World Away, from their album In Around The Moments:

New Brighton Music

OK, so we’ve got a LOT of catching up to do. Life’s throwing lots of distractions at me which means that blogging doesn’t get nearly as much time as it ever used to. I started writing this blog post over a week ago, so even once I post this I’m playing catch up. Let’s just plug ahead shall we?

First up is Bentcousin, who’ve collaborated with Alcatraz Electro on a New Order-esque track called Everybody Loves The Weekend. Ideal to kick off a Saturday post with.

New Brighton Music

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve done a new music roundup. There’s doesn’t seem to be quite as much music coming out as there was a couple of months back for some reason, but there’s still plenty for us to write about. We would write about the new Tigercub track Destroy, leaner and more angular than some of their melodic tracks, but we can’t share the stream. Dog in the Snow have contributed to the 405 Alanis Morrissette Jagged Little Pill cover project. The album was 20 years old last month, and Helen has put her mark on Right Through You

New Brighton Music

Another week, another nine new tracks for you to hear, so there should be something for everyone. The first two tracks came out especially for Record Store Day. If you’re lucky you might still be able to pick them up on down at Resident.

The Go! Team‘s RSD release was a new 7″ called Ye Ye Yamaha, which came out on yellow translucent vinyl. Both sides of the record were brand new tracks which weren’t included on their new album The Scene Between.

We posted the lead track from Demob Happy‘s Young & Numb EP back in February. Last saturday they got truly into the spirit of Record Store Day, playing an impromptu set outside Resident and then playing an afternoon set at the Spectrum gig at the Dome. They also put up another track from the 10″ they put out for the event, and you can listen to Fizz below:

We were very please to read about the return of Momotaro. They have a new EP called Highest out on 2nd May, and the first track online from it is the housey Roots:

Rooster Cole released his debut EP last week. The More Than You EP is available to download via Bandcamp and iTunes and opens up with Up To The Teeth:

Fickle Friends have been teasing about some news to be announced on Radio One later this evening over on their facebook page. It’s exciting times over at Fickle Friends HQ because yesterday they also shared a video for their new track Could Be Wrong:

Last week Astrid’s Tea Party shared the audio of their upcoming single Black Swan. The dramatic electro pop single comes out on May 18th:

Red Deer People have just released a couple of new tracks on Bandcamp (with a physical cd release to follow). Fire Fire Blister Blister is backed with another track called Pull Out Your Dagger Pull Out Your Gun.

Eighties Matchbox B-Line distaster offshoot Krak Krak release the follow up to their debut single on 18th May. Grave Dohl will be coming out as a digital download on Sonic Anhedonic Recording Company and will be playing a couple of shows at the Great Escape a few days before to celebrate:

Finishing up with something a bit quieter than the Krak Krak track is Jack Watts, whose new EP Red Shortbread comes out on 17th May. Here’s EP opener with Push Blue:

Here’s this week new music roundup. Another busy week packed with the usual diversity of genres and styles

First up is Cousin, whose new EP Music to Polish Your Rifle To comes out on 23rd March. The follow to 2013’s Alternate Tunings for Regular People carries on the same themes, sounding like Tortoise if they were all into guitars. and will be co-released by Fcking The Night and Barely Legal Records on 12″ / download on. Take a look at the video for the closer to side A Which Schnitzel? here:

There’s not nearly enough psychedelic country soul that comes out of Brighton, so we were pleased to hear that Rocker Switch have released Show Me. They’ve pressed up just 45 7″s which you can buy direct from the band or you can pick up the track on download from the bandcamp link below:

Aashton has put out a new EP a few weeks ago which we’ve only just been given the heads up on. Humans contains three tracks of sophisticated house, and is available now on download from Beatport on Phonetic records. Here’s the title track

We caught Normanton Street play an intimate gig at the Gladstone a few weeks ago and loved it. You should do your very best to make it down to their show at The Haunt on Friday. In the meantime here’s the latest video they’ve put up, for the song New Dawn, taken from their Much Respect EP which came towards the end of last year.

Tigercub have posted up a new demo on Soundcloud. This is called Hold On:

Big Society‘s video for their new single Nowhere dropped a few weeks ago. If you like what you hear, you can catch them at their single launch at Sticky Mike’s on 24th March.

A Basement Story is the new side project from Alexander from the Dubarrys. There’s a few tracks of laid back breezy psychedelia up on soundcloud, the most recent of which is In Your Dreams:

Tomorrow night Orchards launch their new EP at The Hope & Ruin. Constantly moving is an EP of five tracks at the poppier end of math rock and is out now via bandcamp:

Finally we’ve just been told about the new single Exposed by Mon Frere. It’s take from their album Urban Glow features the vocal talents of Kate Wilds, and a video shot in the studio and out on Devil’s Dyke:

Here’s our first new music post of 2015. We’ve kept receiving music over the Christmas break, including an incredible five emails from one band about a track we’d already featured in a new music post. Odd.

First up is the new single from Moulettes, the aptly titled Glorious Year, out today via the usual digital distribution channels, which comes with remixes from Jimthefingers (aka Moulettes bassist Jim Mortimore) and Modernaire – an old pseudonym of the band they used when they made dance music which has largely been inactive for the last five years:

Ambassadeurs new release came out last week. The Forever EP has been released on his own Lost Tribe label, and can listen to it below on Soundcloud:

Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster drummer Rob Ling has got a new project called Krak Krak, which he describes as like the White Stripes on crack. They have an upcoming EP coming out in February on Sonic Anhedonic in February, but as an introduction here’s a track called It Sleeps:

After we put Yumi & The Weather into our top twenty at the end of the year last year we were promised that there would be some new music soon, and today a new track called Be There appeared on Soundcloud. We don’t know much about the track, but we’ll keep you posted with any news:

Finally, from nowhere we have a mini album from Black Black Hills who we had thought were missing in action somewhere. The eponymous release collects together the bands several singles along side a few other unreleased tracks and is available on Bandcamp now:

New Music – Random Acts of Vinyl, King Porter Stomp, GAPS

The flow of new music has slowed recently, as it always does this time of year. The blogs are otherwise occupied with end of year lists (ours will be coming soon), but there’s still a few bits and pieces out there to tell you about.

King Porter Stomp‘s new single Warning, which features the talents of reggae legend Prince Fatty came out last week on Feet Up records on 10″ and download. It’s backed with a Dub remix by dub producer Nick Manasseh.

Yesterday saw the release of GAPS new single She Bears a Flower. We posted up the video for the single back in October, so we won’t repeat ourselves. Instead what we have for you is the b-side We Are Here – the most ambient thing we’ve heard from the band so far:

Finally, now it’s December it was inevitable that there would be some Christmas music coming. Random Acts of Vinyl have put out a four track 10″ EP with their bands each penning an original festive tune. We’ve got the audio of Fire Eyes‘ O Falling Snow below and the EP also has contributions from Beat Hotel, The Delta Bell and Palm Springs. Details of how you can get hold of the EP will be in the next blog we put up later this evening.

New Music

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve made a New Music post – not because there hasn’t been good new music coming out, but because life’s got in the way – so we’ve got some catching up to do.

First up is the first music put online from the White brothers new project The Fiction Aisle. They’ve played a couple of gigs at the Prince Albert (with the next in their residency being on 26th November) but Blue is the first most people would have heard of the new band. Where Electric Soft Parade were all about a guitar based sound, The Fiction Aisle present beautiful shimmering pop:

Next up is a new tune from Ambassadeurs written while on tour recently in the States. From You is four minutes of effortless electronica.

BentCousin post up far more tracks than we get a chance to but their latest effort, Hid, is rather lovely, a simple string backed song with Amelia taking on the bulk of vocal duties.

Great Pagans launched their album Cupid In Error at the Green Door Store on 6th November at and haven’t rested on their laurels since then, sharing a remix of So Pure by fellow Brighton act Acquaintance.

Fickle Friends have breathed some new life into some of their old singles in the past few weeks, with a few remixes popping up and now a Vevo featured video of For You:

Time for T launch their self titled EP next Monday (24th November). They’re holding a London launch on the day, but the Brighton party isn’t until 13th December. As a taster, they’ve shared EP track Long Day Home

Last but by no means least is New Year’s Prayer, the lead track from Night House‘s upcoming debut EP, which is also self titled:

At the start of the week we posted what we said was “probably” our last New Music post of the month. As it turns out, there’s been so many great tunes in our in box we’ve decided to squeeze in another.

This evening we got very excited when Fujiya & Miyagi posted a brand new remix of Daggers from their latest album Artificial Sweeteners put together by Stephen Morris from New Order

Blood Red Shoes have launched their own label called Jazz Life, and the first release will be out on 1st December from Tigercub with a newly recorded version of live favourite Centrefold:

Tyrannosaurus Dead‘s new album Flying Ant Day is out a week next monday. To get everyone in the mood they’ve shared the track Bagged & Boarded:

Ewan Hoozarmi has a new free download up on Soundcloud. Reaching Dragons is five minutes of funky electro-house:

As well as tomorrow night being Normanton Street’s EP launch at The Haunt and Spit Shake Sister’s single launch at Bleach, it’s also the next Spectrum at the Dome Studio Theatre, which this month is headlined by Speak Galactic. Joining them on the bill is Abraham Moughrabi, who’s recorded a live video of Cross The Line for the Site and Sound part of Spectrum in advance of the night:

One of the supports at the Spit Shake Sisters launch tomorrow is Morning Smoke. They got in touch to let us know about their new single Hunger which is out on December 1st:

As I’m writing this, I’m missing out on Prince Vaseline playing live at the Prince Albert supporting 80s Matchbox spin off group Piano Wire. If you didn’t make the gig either (or maybe if you did and you’re reading this later), here’s the video for their new track Orchid:
