Clowwns at the Hope & Ruin gallery
Last night Clowwns played at the Hope & Ruin (supported by Mum Dad and the Kids, but we got there a bit late for them because Clowwns played a two sets). The band, who disppeared off the scene for a few years are back for 2020, and played a mix of old and new songs, all as tight and angular as they ever were. Lighting was provided by the seemingly omnipresent Innerstrings (who’s also going to be hard at work next weekend running Lewes Psych Fest, alongside last night’s promoter Melting Vinyl). November / December gig previews
It’s the fourth of November and we haven’t got around to this month’s gig preview post yet. That means we’ve missed out on telling you about Tru Thoughts 20th Birthday Party which was at Patterns on Saturday, and British Sea Power’s all dayer at the Concorde yesterday. There’s still a lot of other gigs to tell you about though, including a couple in December – The music world shuts down towards the end of November and only posts end of year lists, so I’m including them now so they don’t get missed. Orchards at the Hope & Ruin gallery
Last night Orchards headlined the Hope & Ruin, playing their first sold out headline show of their careers to date. The gig was in aid of Brighton Women’s Centre, so selling out is the best thing that could have happened for both the band and the charity involved. Support came from Libra Libra (who we saw) and Pollon (who we sadly missed). Continue reading

June Gig Preview
It’s almost June, which means that we’re almost due for our regular monthly gig preview, back to a standard one after our amended format for May when focussed on the Great Escape.

April Gig Previews
It’s the start of a new month, so it’s time for us to share the local gigs with local bands that have caught our eye. This month, lots of launches and festivals:
First up, Jouis launch their new album Mind Bahn at the Rose Hill on Thursday 4th April. Support comes from Ellie Ford and ticket are £5.50 in advance.
Our first festival to talk about is QM Records Moves Festival, which takes place at the Old Market on Saturday 6th April. There’s a fantastic line up of some of the finest Brighton based bands, headed up by Normanton Street and Kudu Blue. Continue reading
