It’s the first of July and summer’s definitely here. What’s hot in the world of Brighton music over the next month though? Read on and we’ll tell you…
The first gig we have to mention takes place this Friday (5th), when The Physics House Band play at the Hope & Ruin, off the back of their recent Death Sequence EP. There are two local supports – Inwards and Jouis – and the nightwill be lit by Innerstrings.
Yumi & The Weather are on the road around the UK from today for their first full band tour. They’re playing at the Green Door Store on Monday 8th July.
If you want to see a great band AND do some good this month, then go and see Orchards, who play at the Hope & Ruin on Wednesday 10th July, where profits are going to Brighton Women’s centre. This will be the first time we’ve actually caught a full Orchards set, having missed them so many times and only managing to catch the last couple of songs at this year’s Great Escape. Support comes from Libra Libra and Pollon.
Penelope Isles‘ new album When The Tide Comes In comes out a week on Friday, and they’re playing an instore at Resident on Wednesday 17th July. Unless you’re lucky enough to be at one of the European festivals they’re playing at this summer, this is going to be your only chance to see them until their tour in November / December (which finishes at the Haunt on December 11th).
Finally, we couldn’t close off our gig preview without mentioning Rag’n’Bone Man’s gig at the Racecourse on Saturday 27th July. I’m not sure if he still lives locally, but does that really matter when he’s done so much for the local music scene – working his way up with Rum Committee, supporting AudioActive, and playing at the Brits in front of visuals of the pier.
