The Go! Team‘s brand new album is out today! The Scene Between, the band’s first record in about four years, is out in the shops (and the usual digital places) right now. As mentioned in our most recent new music roundup, last week Buzzfeed where premiering a whole week of videos of tracks from the album, kicking off with What D’You Say? (which we also posted). They followed up with videos for Blowtorch, Did You Know?, Catch Me On The Rebound, and Reason Left To Destroy all of which we’ve rounded up for you below.

Coachwerks is a former motor garage in the backs of Hollingbury which also acts as an occasional community hub and very rare live venue. It has started brewing its own beer on-site too in a rather special micro-brewery and last night I can vouch for the tastiness of the Old Bastard bitter, which is also available at a good price.
Last night the garage was packed for a live music show, featuring the Knights Project, Kristin McClement and Dom Prag and the Pillow Biters.
First up was Dom Prag who plays some inventive new wave songs, which his bassist tried to convince were a record of the lead singer’s sex life. The most memorable was an excellent song called ‘Unemployment’,

There was a slight pause before the second act which gave us good time to sample the home brew. Kristin McClement was en route direct from a support slot that evening for Sam Lee at the Brighton Corn Exchange, so it was quite a switch to come to the tiny Coachwerks on the same night. However, we were privileged to have her and she and drummer Jools performed an intense set of her melancholic poetic folk songs. We’ve written about Kristin before, but if you haven’t heard her new album ‘The Wild Grips’ yet we highly recommend that you do.

Last up were the Knights Project, a folk super group comprising the Pillow Biters from earlier plus assorted others, and led by Lucy Day. Theirs is a joyful sound of guitars and violins and accordion, which provided an enjoyable way to close the evening.

We haven’t been so great about getting out to gigs so far this year. The fact that it’s still so cold that I can still see my breath when I leave the house in the mornings and a couple of colds which have knocked me for six have meant that the allure of the sofa was stronger than that of leaving the house. Last night though, we were invited out to Hotel Pelirocco where the Brighton Sofar Sounds crew put on their latest night.
I think I described the last Sofar Sounds gig as possibly the most tightly packed gig that I’d ever been to. Last night was even busier. When I heard it was at Hotel Pelirocco I thought it would be in the bar area where I’d been to many nights in the past, but on arriving someone on the door asked if we were here for the comedy, and if we weren’t we were guided down some stairs, doubling back on yourself, going down some more stairs, turning corners until you had no idea quite which direction you were facing, into a room where the door wouldn’t open fully because of the number of bodies. It turns out that we had been directed to the Kraken’s lair – Pelirocco’s most recently refurbished rum-sponsored room.
First up was Alex KP, who initially looked fairly innocuous with just her voice and guitar to entertain us, but very early on proved she had a great soulful voice. By the end of her short set she’d also introduced a loop pedal and a violin into the mix. Definitely someone to watch out for in future (her album is apparently due next week). Next up was Slam The Poet, performing as a two piece under the new guise of MVC. Think Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius pip without so much facial hair and more freestyling.
After a short break to allow everyone to nip to the bar we came back to find that there was even less room than before because final act Our Girl had set up taking up twice as much space as the previous bands. We’ve written Our Girl frontwoman Soph Nathan before when she was writing and recording under her own name. Having a full band behind her has transformed her ideas into the real deal. She had the best songs of the night, sounding fantastic drenched in reverb.

GAPS announced news of their debut album today. “In, Around the Moments” is being released on 11th May on May Jane Cole’s I/AM/ME label, who also put out GAPS collaboration with May Jane Coles last year. On the same day as the album comes out, a new single All Me All You, taken from the album, also comes out. Anyone who’s seen the band live recently will recognise some of the visuals in the video. The full tracklist for In Around the Moments, which includes previous singles I Know It’s You, Keep You and Cascade, is below the video.

Here’s this week’s new music roundup which starts off with a video and a whole heap of news about The Go! Team.
These days people are more likely to visit Buzzfeed than more traditional media, so with that in mind, The Go! Team have premiered a new video for What D’you Say?there. It’s not just the one video either – every day this week they’re putting up a new video. What you won’t find over on Buzzfeed is news about the band’s tour, kicking off on 5th June in Bristol and finishing up with a hometown gig at The Haunt on 4th July. Tickets go on sale this friday.
Next up is a track called Caves, by a new band called Sea Bed. Sea Bed are made up of Lizzie Massey and Jim Corbin, who used to be in Tiny Dragons. They’ve put the rock side of their character to bed with their old band name and have embraced dance music still layered with live instruments to give the sound a more rounded feel. Caves is taken from the Rosso EP, out on 6th April on DEPF records.
Next up is a new remix of a Self Help Group track. The original version of Prisoner appeared on their album Not Waving but Drowning, but you can grab a free download of the Small World Orchestra remix over on bandcamp:
Fools Empire are a new Brighton Based five piece playing soaring rock. The Professionals came out last friday and is the first of a set of three singles that the band are putting out this year.
Here’s this week’s new music roundup, which includes two tracks which have been featured on Radio One. Good work Brighton bands!
First is Black Peaks, whose new single Glass Built Castles was Radio 1#s track of the day yesterday!
The title track of the new Ambassadeurs EP has been picked up by Radio 1 too. It’s called Can’t See You, and here’s what Radio 1 had to say about it “Every single second of this track is sheemed with effortless cool…This is the sort of music that conjures up images in my head of clubs i’m not cool enough to get in to”
Sticking with electronica is the first brand new track from Foreign Skin in about two years. There’s been plenty of remixes and live dates in that time, but Enemy is the first original track released by them since Hoi Sum came out on the first KLDSCP release in 2013.
She Crazy are giving away a new EP on bandcamp. The She Crazy EP features Stalker Song, Zompocalpse Now!, Goin to Hell and Trigger Finger:
The debut track from producer Aeble got premiered on the Line of Best Fit at the start of the weekend. Better By Your Side features vocals from Tom Aspaul and is a lovely five minute chilled house journey.
Veni, Vidi, Vici are a new Brighton rock band. Their first track was posted online a week ago and is called Innocence:
Mitch Wade Cole‘s debut EP is out at the start of April on Not Like That Music. The holding page for the Electric Bath Duck release is as schizophrenic as the track.

The follow to 2013’s Alternate Tunings for Regular People carries on the same themes, sounding like Tortoise if they were all into guitars. and will be co-released by Fcking The Night and Barely Legal Records on 12″ / download on. There’s not nearly enough psychedelic country soul that comes out of Brighton, so we were pleased to hear that Rocker Switch have released Show Me. They’ve pressed up just 45 7″s which you can buy direct from the band or you can pick up the track on download from the bandcamp link below:
Aashton has put out a new EP a few weeks ago which we’ve only just been given the heads up on. Humans contains three tracks of sophisticated house, and is available now on download from Beatport on Phonetic records. Here’s the title track
We caught Normanton Street play an intimate gig at the Gladstone a few weeks ago and loved it. You should do your very best to make it down to their show at The Haunt on Friday. In the meantime here’s the latest video they’ve put up, for the song New Dawn, taken from their Much Respect EP which came towards the end of last year.

A Basement Story is the new side project from Alexander from the Dubarrys. There’s a few tracks of laid back breezy psychedelia up on soundcloud, the most recent of which is In Your Dreams:
Tomorrow night Orchards launch their new EP at The Hope & Ruin. Constantly moving is an EP of five tracks at the poppier end of math rock and is out now via bandcamp:
Finally we’ve just been told about the new single Exposed by Mon Frere. It’s take from their album Urban Glow features the vocal talents of Kate Wilds, and a video shot in the studio and out on Devil’s Dyke:
Another week, another new music roundup. Ten tunes for you this week, two of which have been posted before, but are worthy of another mention, but we’ll tell you about them when we get to them.
Our first track is by The Go! Team, whose new album The Scene Between comes out at the end of the month. If you pre-orer the album you’ll get instant downloads of What D’You Say, which you can hear below, Blowtorch, which we featured last month, and the album’s title track.
Glass City Vice‘s new single Landslide comes out next Monday. If we’d have been a bit more on the ball on following up from the mail we had from their people we’d have been able to tell you about their gig supporting Dry The River at the Concorde on tuesday night, but at least we weren’t so slack that we missed telling you about their headline gig at The Hope & Ruin on 15th April.
Black Honey have put up new track Madonna which is coming out on a double A side single on 6th April. It’ll be backed with another new track Spinning Wheel and will be released on Duly Noted Records.
Black Fields new single Monster came out last friday. It’s currently available to download for free on their bandcamp page.
David Bennett sent us the video for his new track Atoms the other day, which shows David playing all of the instruments, as he does on the track itself.
Mustang Japan is taken from High Tyde‘s upcoming Fuzz EP, out next Monday. The band are off on tour later this month, starting off with a couple of dates at the Haunt where they’re support Peace at their sold out nights.
Luo and Monoman are a couple of Brighton artists who have tracks featured on a new compilation put out by Brighton label SmallPrint. We’ve featured one of Luo’s tracks here (they have two tracks on the compilation) but you can download Eidolon and the rest of the album for free via the SmallPrint facebook page.
Mount Bank‘s Island Life EP is also out next Monday. We posted up Everything Is Glass from it a few weeks back, and here’s another track – Summer Camp (Anenon Remix). You can pre-order the EP on iTunes here.
Finally the two tracks that we’ve featured before – We first wrote about Glow by IYES back in November last year, when it was scheduled for a released in December. Things got pushed back, but it’s finally out now. You can watch the video below or buy the track on iTunes here.
Last, and by no means least since it headed up February Top Ten, is the video for Demob Happy‘s Young & Numb. When we posted the track last month only the audio stream was available, but since there’s now video too it’s worth re-sharing.
Brighton Music Blog favourites Curxes have announced details of their debut album Verxes. It’s coming out on 4th May on download with a single entitled What You Want appearing shortly beforehand. The full tracklist is below the video for Further Still, one of a number of the bands earlier singles which appear on the album.
