It’s the third of September, which means we’re overdue for our September gig preview post.

The big gig to mention this month though is Kitfest, taking place at St George’s Church on Saturday 15th September. It’s in aid of the Kit Tarka Foundation, a charity set up by The Miserable Rich lead singer James De Malplaquet following the sad early passing of his son at just thirteen days old. The Miserable Rich have been on hiatus for a few years but are reforming for the concert which sees Fujiya & Miyagi (playing their only Brighton gig of the year) and Alice Russell & TM Juke at the top of the bill for the evening, which will be MCed by David Shrigley. Gloria Cycles are also reforming for the night – newcomers to Brighton might know the name from the vintage sign in the Basketmakers, but Gloria Cycles was also the name of one of the city’s top bands around ten years ago – alongside Jess Bishop, We Bop Choir and 1BTN DJs.

Keep your eyes peeled on the blog later this week for our next post which should also be Yumi & The Weather related. Also on Friday, Bloom make a live return headlining Femrock at the Green Door Store.

Black Honey release their debut album this month too. They’re off on tour to promote it and play the Concorde in October but if you can’t wait until then you can pre-order the album from Resident and get a pass to their instore at Resident on Friday 21st. if you were looking for something to do after that, then I’d point you in the direction of Sticky Mike’s for the launch of CLT DRP’s new single. The following night – Saturday 22nd September – there’s another album launch. Man Ray Sky are celebrating their second long player with a gig at Sticky Mike’s.

After a summer of festivals, The Magic Gang are finally doing an extensive tour to promote their debut album. They played a handful of dates when the album came out earlier this year, but 2018’s only Brighton gig so far has been a packed out Great Escape slot. You can catch them at Concorde 2 on Tuesday 25th September.
