Ellie Ford launched her debut album ‘The Other Sun’ at Bleach in Brighton on 22nd April. Brighton Music Blog were there to share in the fun.
Opener Alabaster dePlume decided to play in the middle of the room without amplification, treating what began as a sparse audience to his warm comedic songs. By the end of his set the room had filled up, making the unamplified set hard to appreciate for some but he cleverly ended with an extended poem drawing on a long list of real quote advertising cliches which had the whole room guffawing.
Ellie Ford announced that she was going to play her new album straight through, and with the exception of a single Patrick Watson cover that’s what she did, starting with the upbeat Sweet Life and then moving through each song, closing with the album’s lead single ‘July’. The room was packed and the audience clearly enthusiastic supporters of this excellent emerging artist. The band were superb, as ever.
If you haven’t heard the album, go over to HIdden Trail records and give it a listen. Our photographs from the night are below.
