What’s the best thing about Brighton?
I think the best thing about Brighton is how free-spirited it is. It’s so quirky and weird, and no one’s afraid to express themselves, which is really cool – you don’t get that so much in other places. I’m from London originally, and I now find it quite plain, but also sort of pretentious in comparison. Also, the beach is great, obviously!
Who are the your favourite local bands?
I’m probably biased because their my friends, but my favourites are Peace In Protest, Seeva, the Yellow Bellies, and Sal Paradise. I also love Yonaka – the front-woman seems so cool, and is an incredible performer.
What’s the best venue?
The Old Market is such a nice venue! I’d love to play a show there one day. I’m yet to go to the Haunt or Brighton Dome for a gig – I’m really keen to check those venues out. During the Great Escape, they open Wagner Hall as a venue for Vevo, and it’s honestly amazing! I think it’s usually a gallery or exhibition centre or something, but it makes such a cool venue.
What’s the best rehearsal space / studio?
Small Pond is great – although not if you’re in the same room as a sweaty band that have just finished practicing.
What’s the best club?
I’m not really one for clubbing, but Casa Blanca is decent. They have a sick live band that play all the classic bangers, so it’s good fun. And if I’m smashed, Revenge is a great night out. I went to Shooshh once. Never again.
What’s the best record shop?
Before I moved down to Brighton, I always used to go to Resident to buy my records. I really like it there – it’s a nice vibe, and they often have in-store performances and signings, which is pretty cool.
Where’s the best places to eat?
Terre à Terre does the most amazing vegan food – it’s actually insane. It’s a bit pricey, but SO worth it.
What’s the best pub?
As trashy and uncultured as it, I do love a good Wetherspoons. You can’t beat their pitchers of cocktails to get you started. Crowns is also good – they do £3 doubles for students.
Who’s your favourite Brighton celebrity?
I sometimes see Gabrielle Aplin and Natti from Fickle Friends around. They’re super cool music ladies.
When was the last time you had any Brighton Rock?
Maybe when I was, like, twelve? It has been a while!
