I took a day off blogging yesterday in memory of the people of Manchester. To continue as if it hadn’t happened would have been inappropriate, and our thoughts are with anyone who has been affected by the incident at the Ariana Grande concert at the MEN Arena.

While Brighton Music Blog is very much about Brighton many of my favourite bands are from Manchester, and it was photographer Kevin Cummins’ shots of bands from Joy Division to Oasis that sowed the seed of the idea of a city having a scene that might work for Brighton too. I went to a gig at MEN Arena once about ten years ago – an all dayer for Manchester Vs Cancer, where New Order, Doves, Elbow, 808 State, Johnny Marr and Badly Drawn Boy all played. On that day the people of Manchester showed hope, resilience and unity against a common cause. They did too following the IRA bombing in 1996 too, and I’m sure they will again.
